Hinsdale

Hinsdale Manufacturing was established by Fred W Miller in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1919. This was at the height of demand for aftermarket Model T tools. The first items were stamped steel wrenches and sockets. The company had moved to Chicago within two years and Charles H Johnson was involved.

Hinsdale began forging tools. Wrench sets were supplied to other companies while they purchased ratchets and broached sockets. Hard times hit during the depression. Sherman & Klove were subcontractors and found themselves sitting on a large inventory Hinsdale couldn’t pay for. S & K sold the inventory themselves. The company did recover and continued for many years after.
