The Ideal Commutator Dresser Company is most known for the wire nut. The company began as a partnership in 1916 between brothers J Walter and Lou C Becker. Their first and primary product was a dressing stone used to clean commutators. The company reorganized and incorporated in 1946 as Ideal Industries. This was also the year they patented the twist-on wire connector. Ideal obtained a trademark for the Wire Nut name. Ideal is alive and healthy today. Products include electrical meters, connectors, and SK hand tools.
