David H Irland was involved in Chicago industry in the 1870s. He acquired 3 wrench patents by 1903. Each patent was a variation of the same wrench. Patent numbers are 732858, 739316, and 800850. He took over the building of the New England Brake Shoe Company in Boston about 1904 and incorporated the Irland Wrench Company in 1905. He died soon after and his wife Frances assumed leadership. The Irland Automatic Pipe Wrench was advertised heavily in 1906 and 1907.
There is no evidence that the company did more than distribute wrenches. The Stevens Arms Company, Lamb Knittery Machine Works, and Page Storm are known manufacturers. The company address changed from Boston to Chicopee Falls between 1913 and 1918. Page Storm was also located in Chicopee Falls.
