Illinois Iron & Bolt had its start in 1855 when George Marshall opened a blacksmith shop in Carpentersville, Illinois. Marshall repaired and later began manufacturing threshers. The company was incorporated in 1864 and changed hands in 1868 when Julius Carpenter gained control along with Alfred Edwards. Collectors value the Vulcan brand jacks and anvils produced by the company with an arm & hammer logo cast in.
